Avoid this sitter if reliability is important to you. Our entire experience revolved around accommodating her schedule instead of the other way around. She insisted on being guaranteed 8 hours every week, even when we didn’t need childcare, and we agreed to be fair and give her consistent work. Then, only about a month later, she changed the arrangement and decided she would only work every other week. That completely defeated the purpose of hiring a babysitter. Families hire childcare because they need someone dependable, not someone who changes the terms whenever it’s convenient. The breaking point was canceling with less than 24 hours’ notice because she didn’t want to drive in the heat. She then told us she wouldn’t be available again until after July. Leaving a family without childcare at the last minute over something that was entirely foreseeable shows a complete lack of professionalism and reliability. We honored every commitment we made and were flexible whenever she asked. That effort was never returned. If you’re looking for someone dependable who understands that parents rely on childcare to get to work and care for their families, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
