I work with a couple families. Where we do there homework. Practice numbers and the alphabet and do Kumon books and lots of reading, I'm able to take what may be frustrating into something that excites and motivates them. They can earn things that they want (Depending on the parents decision). If they get frustrated, I give them a 2 or 3 minute break to play with one toy. I always talk about things that they like while doing their homework. Like for math incorporating counting toys or adding Lego pieces.
