About Carmen

Hi! I'm Carmen, an ESL teacher in Lawrence, MA, with over a year of experience teaching fifth and eighth graders through Teach For America. I tutor grades K-12, specializing in reading, writing, and the humanities. I studied outdoor education at Colorado Mountain College and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at UC Santa Cruz, and have worked at Bundle Carriers Camp, a Dakota youth program, and as a resident assistant. I believe every student is capable and learns best as a knowledge holder. I build academic skills through what your child cares about and adapt to how they learn. I want to be an adult students feel safe taking risks with, while nurturing curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. I see families as partners. I start by learning your child's strengths and goals from you, and keep you updated along the way. I'd love to talk about supporting your child!
