About Alice

I have more than 30 years of teaching experience. In addition to homeschooling my own children for 14 years, I have taught in Montessori classrooms, private schools, and homeschool co-operatives. I've created curriculum for non-profit organizations including Buddhist temples. I am Stixrud trained and certified to tutor students with learning challenges and disabilities. I believe that the purpose of an educator is to facilitate a safe, nurturing environment with the materials a child needs to fulfill their intrinsic desire to learn. As a teacher and tutor, my role is to evaluate each child's needs through careful observation and provide educational content and materials that meet their individual needs, interests, and learning styles, engaging as many of their senses as possible. I'm also a beekeeper, gardener, and retired roller derby player. I live with my husband and two kids in downtown Silver Spring, along with our five ducks, two foster turkeys, and a bunny.
