I have never had a paid position working with the elderly. However, since I was a child I have been volunteering for organizations that visit care homes and have also taken on long-term commitments to visit, aid, and provide company for two different neighbors. Additionally, I spent many years visiting with my aging grandmother who suffered from confusion and memory loss and was unable to communicate verbally after having several strokes. I have many years of experience as a nanny and a paraeducator, and I feel that my time in those positions has made me a more patient and empathetic person. I feel called to help people, and am primarily looking for a position where I can assist with some housework/meal preparation and act as a companion to someone.
