About Abbey

I've taught English and Theatre for 13 years for grades 8-12. I'm experienced teaching for different academic challenges and gifts each student has. I engage students in critical thinking over reading material, discuss media literacy, guide students through creative and analytical writing, and prepare students for testing including the SAT essay and language portions. I am also AP English certified and can help prepare students for their AP English classes and exams. I've also directed youth theatre and can guide students through audition and monologue preparation, theatre history, etc. I enjoy creating book clubs for young readers and have trained with the American Library Association on running youth book clubs for reluctant readers. Additionally, I am an active member of the National Council of Teachers of English, serve as the Youth Outreach Coordinator for Michigan Council of Teachers of English, and am the Creative Writing Coordinator for Michigan Youth Arts.
