About who needs care: She recently broke her hip and will need assistance with ADL's. Also meal prep & light cleaning. My brother (52) lives with her, but is not able to take care of her due to his health issues & restrictions. She is very independent and having a hard time adjusting to needing help. She likes reading & music. She rises about 10 a.m. and takes a leisurely breakfast, getting dressed by 11 or 12 and then is active in the afternoon. Late afternoon nap and then usually up until 9 or 10 p.m. We will be looking into Home Health for therapy & showers, but I'm not sure how long that will last. Goal is to get her mobile again and then cut back the hours someone needs to be in the house with her. Going forward, there will definitely be a need for regular cleaning & cooking assistance.
About the care needs: Patience! My mother can be very acerbic, especially when she's in pain or frustrated. You need to be able to let her bad moods roll off you and not take them personally. If you can treat her like the intelligent, valuable person she is, things will go a lot easier. Internet savvy would be a plus, but not necessary.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
