About who needs care: -Stroke patient with dysphasia, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, macular degeneration, hyperparathyroidism. Stroke has impaired his speech and mobility. Unable to stand, walk on own (not even with walker). Unable to sit unsupported due to balance.
-Enjoys watching price is right, lets make a deal, horse racing, listening to music.
-usually eats breakfast at 7am, lunch at 12 p.m. and dinner at 5pm, requiring diapering/diaper checks every two hours or so, as well as repositioning in bed to avoid bedsores.
-Hoyer lift transfers required to get him in and out of full electric hospital bed. Sitting in a wheelchair for meals preferred, but may remain in bed so long as he is positioned in a fully upright position, no slouching .
-Wife does the cooking and feeding. Primary needs for patient will be diapering, bathing, dressing, repositioning in bed and lift transfers in and out of bed.
-possible hours of assistance between 8/9am-2 p.m.
About the care needs: -Spanish speaker preferred. Patient speaks both English and Spanish, but more intelligible in Spanish after stroke, and wife more comfortable communicating in Spanish.
-Patient, outgoing, chatty (for lack of a better word), and experience with seniors would be a good fit.
-knowledgeable on diabetic/minced-moist diet, thickened liquids (currently honey-thick)
-ability to operate manual hoyer lift
Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
