About who needs care: My mom is 72 years old living in the Sun Lakes senior community in Banning, CA. She is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and my husband and I arranged for her to move to Southern California after she had a ruptured aneurysm and stroke 9 years ago. She has been living alone in her home for the 7-8 years, but she has started slipping in taking care of the house, has begun showing signs of what I think is vascular dementia and physical weakness. This is a woman who always kept her home clean and tidy, and took pride in her appearance and dress (nails, makeup, etc.) Prior to her stroke, she enjoyed aerobics, gardening, reading, cooking, baking, playing cards, doing puzzles, etc. Now she mostly sits with the TV on. She also will chat with her neighbors. She has started sending her biweekly maid service away, not wanting to let them in the house. I want to ensure that she and her home are in good shape, and that she is eating and getting more mental engagement.
About the care needs: Person should be tolerant/patient but also direct and able to cut through my mom's attempts to put up a front that she doesn't need help without making her feel like she's giving in too much. My mom loves all Pittsburgh sports (football, hockey, baseball).
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
