About who needs care: My father Brian is a 70-year-old who suffered a spinal cord injury over 10 years ago. He is technically a quadriplegic and deals with partial paralysis in all his limbs. Brian has always relied on caregivers since his accident to help with daily tasks such as accessing his bed, showering, using the toilet, and meal preparation. Brian is a homebody and enjoys listening to talk radio and watching FOX News. Ideally we are looking for a caregiver who is physically strong, speaks fluent English, and has a car and/or can drive him to appointments and the physical therapy pool he uses for exercise. About the care needs: An ideal caregiver would tolerate Brian's hobby of listening to conservative political news all day without judging his opinions. S/he would be physically strong in case he needs help transferring from his wheelchair. S/he would speak fluent English as Brian tends to whisper and can give unclear instructions sometimes. S/he would have access to a car or be able to drive him to appointments or the therapy pool he uses for exercise. S/he would be able to cook basic meals that he can rehead himself for dinner. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
