About who needs care: 1). Underlying conditions:
She is ambulatory, but a bit unsteady on her feet at times. She is regaining her strength after going through Rehab. She is bit forgetful, but not unusually so for her age (85). She has diabetes and high blood pressure. Both can be managed through a carefully maintained diet. She needs some reminders to take her medication.
2). Hobbies:
She enjoys conversations with others, word finds, and card games. She also enjoys shopping at Wal-mart.
3) Ideal Day:
Her ideal day would include a visitor(s). She loves company. She also enjoys going to buy chicken sandwiches through a drive-thru.
About the care needs: She needs a caregiver who will spend time with her. The ideal person will be someone who will have conversations with her and who will play card games with her. She needs someone who can drive her to her medical appointments and occasionally to the store for an outing.
The person needs to be patient and caring.
Caregivers do not need specific hobbies or interests. It would be good to introduce my grandmother to new activities though. She could be encouraged to paint or to do crafts.
She is more likely to try new things if she is simply introduced to them. The caregiver could bring the activity to her as a surprise. If the caregiver does the same craft or activity, she will enjoy it more.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
