About who needs care: My 89-year-old grandmother is a spunky, loving, caring woman who needs help and company. Her name is Carlene . My little sister currently lives with her and cares for her and needs some time away to work and go to school. Memaw loves sports: football, baseball, basketball. She also loves crafts, ceramics, westerns, old movies and sharing conversations. She worked as an LVN for 20+ years and connects with anyone who has prior medical experience. She has heart failure and is healing from a surgery to fix her broken femur. She is currently able to move herself from her chair to the toilet but needs help getting around and doing other daily tasks. She can cook (she is a great cook) with some assistance. She requires regular breathing treatments. She loves to laugh and joke. Her mind is still sharp even at her age. She could really just use some friendly company to do activities with her and chat. She loves puzzles and will beat you at dominoes. She raised all 6 of her grandchildren and we need help making sure she is cared for so we can also build our lives and be there for our families. About the care needs: If you know sports, she can talk stats all day. She is a Dallas Cowboys fan, do not bring up Tom to her - she will get red in the face. Need to be kind and encouraging. Help her do things on her own, like a spotter almost. She is very independent. She likes to joke but does not cuss. She used to paint and do ceramics, she also sewed outfits and enjoys games. Personality, be empathetic. She has had a long life and has lost a good amount of people, but she is the strongest woman there is. Despite her condition, she finds the positive in things. Be about bringing good energy into her world. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
